Desucon, day 1
Finished my first day of my first “proper” con, Desucon, and I’m absolutely knackered. But it’s been awesome for sure!
I went in costume as people requested I come as Toph when I wore her on Free Comic Book Day about a month ago. I had no idea I’d get as much attention as I did, I figured I’d just be walking around with an occasional exclamation of recognition but I’ve been hugged, photographed and even had a few people squeeing in my direction.
It’s been odd, but I must admit that I enjoyed the attention, even while I don’t quite believe my costume to be that great. At least now I’m even more fired up about doing more costumes and doing them better!
I do have new wigs lying at home waiting for me to redo my Toph wig, the one I have now looks a bit shabby and it’s starting to slowly come undone. I just need the time to fix stuff. D=
I didn’t get to take as many photos as I would’ve liked, partly because of people wanting to take photos of me instead and partly because of the bangs of my wig hanging over my eyes making it a p.i.t.a. to aim at anything. XD
In addition I can’t edit any of the photos on my laptop (no photoshop installed, argh) so I can’t share anything just yet. Bollocks. =(
I didn’t go to as many panels as I had planned, I ended up only going to a prop making panel that a friends was holding which was very informative, I thought I’d know most of it (in theory, I have no proper idea about how to make most of the things they talked about) but I learned quite a few new things. And I think I got a few more ideas on how to make some things I’ve not been quite sure how to tackle.
After that I attended Kamui Cosplay‘s panel, learned a few tricks from her and I even got to check out how she fastened her shoulderpads up close which was awesome. How to fasten shoulderpads have eluded me thus far, but no longer! =D
All in all, it’s been a very new, odd, amazing and educational experience.
I’m going to have to see if my neck can handle another day in costume (the wig is heavy after an entire day of use) tomorrow, otherwise I may just run around with the camera, stalk a few awesome cosplayers and some of the awesome people I found in the artist alley. =D
For now though I’m going to finish my dinner (at 23:50), fix the sofa I’m sleeping on and curl up to snooze.
